The attack on the Champs Élysées was an act of heinous terror; no words suffice. On behalf of the French Communist Party, I would like to pay tribute to the presence of mind of the police force. Our thoughts are with all of the victims. We pay our respects to the policeman whose death is a direct result of his service to the country. We offer our sincere condolence to his family, his loved ones, and his colleagues.

Members of the French Communist Party will take part in ceremonies honouring his memory around the country. We fully support the security forces who are called upon to guarantee that the French elections are carried out in full security and democracy.

The people of France will not be drawn into hatred and isolationism. A massive turnout next Sunday is an act of resistance against barbarism.
