Trump’s anti-Muslim executive order: Air France KLM must not be the instrument of this despicable policy.

Directly after his inauguration, Donald Trump went on the offensive with multiple attacks.

On 27 January, in signing an order, effective immediately, to ban entry into the United States by any national of Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Syria, Sudan and Somalia, even those holding valid visas, the new tenant of the White House laid the foundations of his racist and xenophobic politics, intentionally stigmatising Muslims.

Hundreds of thousands of Americans demonstrated at once, in big cities and at airports, in support of the passengers held back at the borders by authorities, demanding the repeal of this ignominious order that is in violation of the basic principles of human rights. Several petitions have been filed in courts by human rights associations and activists, who have pointed out that foreign workers are essential to the country’s economy.

This popular, massive, instant response, which the French Communist Party applauds and supports, has already led to an initial victory, because a federal judge issued a stay that allowed those targeted by the order, in possession of a valid visa, to enter the U.S.

However, some airlines, including Air France KLM, are collaborating with the racist policy of the United States by preventing individuals from the seven countries listed in the order from boarding their planes.

This is inadmissible, and a shame on our country, made complicit in this discriminatory policy by the actions of our national airline.

The PCF demands that the government intervene immediately, ordering Air France KLM – 17% of the shares of which are held by the French State – to fully respect the free circulation of all individuals, as set forth in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
