L'abdication du roi d'Espagne, Juan Carlos, intervient dans un contexte politique marqué par un affaiblissement considérable des bases politiques sur lesquelles s'appuyait la monarchie espagnole, un bipartisme désormais discrédité dans un pays subissant une crise politique et sociale extrêmement forte et où les résistances populaires grandissent.

Dans ce contexte, les affaires de corruption ayant touché la famille royale n'ont fait qu'accentuer la demande de plus en plus forte à une régénération démocratique qui, pour la première fois depuis longtemps, n'exclut plus la monarchie.

C'est en ce sens que le PCF soutient les forces démocratiques et sociales qui, avec les communistes et la Gauche Unie, oeuvrent pour faire en sorte que les peuples d'Espagne puissent prendre la parole et décider dans un processus constituant incluant le référendum du modèle d'Etat qu'ils souhaitent pour leur pays, et qu'ils aient la possibilité ainsi de se prononcer librement pour une III^e République que de plus en plus ils appellent de leurs vœux.

Declaration of the French communist party : democratic to breach in Spain

The abdication of the King of Spain, Juan Carlos, is involved in a political context marked by a considerable weakening political grounds relied upon by the Spanish monarchy, a bipartisanship now discredited in countries undergoing political and social crisis and extremely high where the growing popular resistance.

In this context, the corruption that affected the royal family only heightens demand increasingly high for a democratic regeneration for the first time in years, no longer excludes the monarchy.

It is in this sense that the PCF supports democratic and social forces with the Communists and the United Left, working to ensure that the people of Spain can speak and decide in a referendum constitutional process including the state model they want for their country, and they have the opportunity to speak freely and to a Third Republic that increasingly they are calling for.
